Robert Farmer - Biography
A British-born Canadian, Robert was a planning engineer with Bristol-Siddeley Engines/Rolls-Royce Gas Turbines Ltd. in the United Kingdom before moving to Canada and then to the United States. He has over 30 years experience in sales and marketing management, application engineering, project engineering, and service management in the engine power industry in North America.
His current work is focused on policy and regulatory analysis, trends and conditions, fuels, planning and marketing associated with widespread application of cogeneration to the problems of global climate change and energy security. For corporate power generation and controls, and other energy-related clients, he offers marketing strategies, complete public relations and communications services, and technical writing for every manner of application and audience.
An accomplished writer and public speaker on climate change and energy issues, his complete technical expertise includes energy efficient, large to small-scale power generation, including combined heat and power (CHP), and marine, surface transportation, and alternative energy applications.
Robert is also president of Third Planet, a United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)-accredited non-governmental organization (NGO) (www.thethirdplanet.org). Although not an attorney and therefore not a member of the World Conservation Union's Commission on Environmental Law (IUCN CEL), he is a member of their Climate and Energy Specialist Working Group, and delivered a presentation for the CESWG to the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2002.
Other highlights have included serving on the Energy Advisory Committee of the Governor's Commission for a Sustainable South Florida (1996-97); a consultant on Florida's Energy Futurea report prepared for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (2003); and more recently, membership on the Climate Change Advisory Committee of the Florida Energy Commission (2007).
